Designing a traditional wood-fired pizza oven and an outdoor kitchen with a central built-in fire to a client's design brief. I have designed for a client in Boston Spa, Yorkshire a unique and functional cooking space that is perfect for entertaining guests. Here are some design elements to keep in mind when creating this type of cooking area:
Location: The location of your pizza oven and outdoor kitchen with built-in fire should be a safe and easily accessible area that is away from any potential fire hazards. It's also important to consider wind direction and how the smoke from the fire will travel.
Size: The size of your pizza oven and outdoor kitchen should be determined by the size of your garden, the amount of space you have available, and how many guests you plan on entertaining. The pizza oven should be large enough to accommodate your largest pizza, while the outdoor kitchen should have enough space to prepare and cook all of your dishes.
Materials: Both the pizza oven and outdoor kitchen should be made of durable and heat-resistant materials, such as brick, stone, or concrete. The materials you choose should be able to withstand high temperatures and provide good insulation.
Ventilation: Adequate ventilation is essential when cooking with fire. The pizza oven should have a chimney or vent to allow smoke and gases to escape, while the outdoor kitchen should have a good ventilation system to prevent smoke buildup.
Cooking surfaces: The pizza oven should have a flat surface made of brick or stone for cooking pizzas, while the outdoor kitchen should have a variety of cooking surfaces, such as a grill, smoker, or rotisserie, to accommodate different types of dishes.
Fuel source: Both the pizza oven and outdoor kitchen require a fuel source, such as wood or charcoal. The type of fuel you choose will affect the taste and cooking process of your dishes.
Overall, designing a traditional wood-fired pizza oven and an outdoor kitchen with a central built-in fire requires careful planning and consideration. By taking the time to consider all of the design elements, you can create a safe and functional cooking space that produces delicious and unique dishes.
